Conference themes

RAC 2009, the international conference on Recognition and Accreditation of Competencies is organised in coordination with iLearning Forum. Submissions can be made in English or French.

Theme #1: Formal vs informal recognition of learning achievements 

The objective of this theme is to explore the range and diversity of recognition processes between informal and formal recognition.

The following topics are suggested:

  • Recognition vs accreditation
  • In-company and local systems of recognition
  • Professional communities as social spaces for recognition
  • National systems of recognition and qualification
  • In-company collective recognition of competencies
  • The European Qualification Framework and Europass

Theme #2: Recognition of learning achievements across cultures and countries

The objective of this track is to explore the methods and tools to facilitate recognition of competencies and qualifications.

The following topics are suggested:

  • Recognition of migrant workers
  • Interoperability of employment and human resources information systems
  • Multilinguality

Theme #3: Recognition of competencies and innovation

The objective of this track is to explore how it is possible to identify and recognise emerging competencies -- a large percentage of the jobs in 10 years time might require competencies that do not even have a name today!

The following topics are suggested:

  • Recognising emerging competencies
  • Actors, methods, tools for supporting the recognition and certification process
  • Designing forward looking standards of competencies
  • Alternative to standards of competencies as recognition matrix
  • Recognising mind-sets vs skill-sets

Theme #4: Quality control of learning achievements certification processes

The objective of this track is to explore the methods to ensure that formal systems of recognition provide consistant outcomes across a range of providers.

The following topics are suggested:

  • Comparison across existing quality assurance systems
  • Methods and tools for auditing the assessment process
  • Transparency of the assessment and certification process
  • What competencies for support staff — tutors, assessors, auditors, etc. ?
