Conference themes

The organisers of iLearning Forum 2008 have pleasure in inviting policy-makers, human resource managers, trainers, teachers and suppliers of learning technology solutions to submit their contributions to the 3rd iLearning Forum, which will be held in Paris on 4-5 February 2008 at the Palais des Congrès. The theme of the Conference is Learning in the 21st Century.

Designing eStrategies for learning organisations - how can technologies contribute to organisational learning by means of a coherent strategy embracing formal and informal learning? Talent and competency management, knowledge management, quality improvement, business transformation, communities of practice, collaborative learning will be among the principal themes highlighted. This track will also address the issues of policies, learning regions, sectoral and international collaboration, SMEs.

Designing learning spaces with advanced learning technologies – how can technologies provide innovative learning solutions to current and emerging needs? Serious games, mobile learning, Web 2.0, knowledge media, semantic web, virtual worlds, personal learning spaces, ePortfolios, podcasts, blogs, wikis and interoperability, new media, user generated contents, social networks are some of the key words that define these new environments. Supporting lifelong learning and employability – how can learning technologies contribute to employability, transparency of qualifications, mobility, accreditation of prior learning, validation of competencies and continuing professional development? What skills and competencies do learners, educators, instructional designers, human resource managers need to develop to harness the real power of learning technologies?

Exploiting the full potential of digital identity – how can individuals and organisations maximise the use of their personal data? Social networks, ePortfolios, personal health records, privacy, authentication and trust are some of the themes that will be addressed.

Improving quality of learning with technologies – how do technologies support the improvement of learning processes in educational institutions and the world of work? How can we measure the real impact of learning technologies, their intrinsic quality and the quality of their usage? How can we improve accessibility and equality?

Theme #1: Designing eStrategies for learning organisations

The objective of eStrategies and learning organisations is to explore the transformations and innovations offered by technology to develop integration strategies in all dimensions of learning in order to promote the development of learning organisations of all sizes. A central issue should be the link between individual and organisational learning.

The objective of Designing learning spaces with advanced learning technologies is to explore innovation in the design of modern learning environments using state of the art technology. A central issue should be the exploration of what is now possible that was not possible 5 years ago with previous technologies, as well as the impact on interoperability and competencies.

The objective of Supporting Lifelong learning and employability is to explore the role technology plays in a lifelong learning perspective, managing the different episodes and transitions of one’s life learning. A central issue should be the way technologies encourage individuals autonomy and responsibility.

  • Lifelong learning, continuing professional development, personal development planning
  • Developing key competencies, key skills, employability skills and skills for life
  • Maintaining employability, managing one’s career path
  • Assessment, authentic assessment, assessment as learning
  • Recognition and validation of prior experience

Theme #4: Exploiting the full potential of digital identity

The objective of Exploiting the full potential of digital identity is to explore the consequences of the emergence of digital identities. A central issue should be the exploitation, controlled by individuals, of their personal data.
The following topics are suggested:

  • Developing a professional identity through social networks

  • Authentication of statements, certificates, etc.

  • Building trust

  • Components of a digital identity: personal health records, professional records, ePortfolio, etc.

  • Federation of identities and services

  • Protection of personal data

Theme #5: Improving the quality of learning with technologies

The objective of Improving the quality of learning with technologies is to explore how technology can support, not only the quality assurance process, but the continuous improvement of learning. A central issue should be the role of quality as a learning process.
