The paradigm of training in medical specialities is changing. The traditional model for education relied heavily on the master-pupil interaction for transfer of knowledge, skill and professionalism. Times are changing and the traditional model has largely been abandoned for being subjective, non-transparent, non-testable and being outdated in the era of evidence-based medicine.

This event will explore the potential of the ePortfolio to support a new model of competency-based learning and development. The programme has been designed to encourage exchanges between medical practitioners and trainees, educators and ICT developers. The symposium is being organised by the Department of Surgery and the Expert Centre of Education and Training of Utrecht Medical Centre. The programme has been developed under the auspices of the Dutch Society of Medical Education and has been accredited by the Dutch Medical Association.

Serge Ravet of EIfEL has been invited to give the closing keynote address on ePortfolio for the 21st Century Reflective Practitioner. An exhibition of ePortfolio solution specialists will accompany the event and EIfEL will have a stand.
