PILOTING E-PORTFOLIOS WITH YOUNG PEOPLE AT RISK OF MARGINALISATION

HOW IS IT GOING?

KEYPAL: The aim of Key-PAL is to establish the relevance and potential impact of the ePortfolio on the development and assessment of key-skills (basic skills / key competencies). The need to raise massively the level of basic skills of the European population, in particular in the groups of disfranchised young adults, requires the exploration of innovative approaches, where technology is not only used as a mean to `teach' new skills, but as a tool to empower learners to manage their own learning.

Key-PAL is exploring how the ePortfolio can support and valorise self-managed learning and development for the acquisition of key-skills. We are also exploring the ability of the ePortfolio to support young adults in interacting with all the actors that can contribute to their development and learning: orientation services, educational services and informal and non-formal learning opportunities. This experimentation has taken the form of pilot ePortfolio projects with groups of marginalised adults in 6 different countries.

Overview: This seminar will present the KEYPAL project and results that could be of interest to your organisation . The seminar will be opened by the KEYPAL Coordinator, European Institute for e-Learning, and its Scottish partner, the Edinburgh University Settlement. Partners from France, Germany, Scotland, Slovenia, Switzerland and Wales will present the results so far of the ePortfolio pilots being conducted with groups of marginalised young adults.

Jeff Haywood, Professor of Education and Technology, University of Edinburgh, will give a vision statement, and there will be a presentation by John Davis, Co-ordinator of the BA in Childhood Studies, University of Edinburgh, with Jen Ross, ePortfolio Co-ordinator, Moray House School of Education, University of Edinburgh.
