About ePortfolio & Digital Identity 2008

ePortfolio & Digital Identity 2008 is the 6th edition of the key international event for the growing community of professionals interested in, and working with, ePortfolios and digital identities. It brings together policy-makers, researchers, teachers, trainers, human resource managers and technologists. As a thematic event devoted to one domain, it allows an in-depth and broad exploration of the issues - and results in real outcomes. Past events have resulted in the creation of national and international networks, contribution to ePortfolio policy, the launch of the ePortfolio for All campaign, progress in ePortfolio interoperability through the Plugfest and contribution to standardisation bodies, establishing partnerships with other communities in the field of digital identity and human resource standards, transnational projects and numerous publications.

Who should attend ePortfolio & Digital Identity 2008?

The 6th International ePortfolio Conference is expected to bring together between 400 to 500 delegates from 35 countries.

Delegates will be decision makers from the human resource, employment and industry sectors, the  education and training sector,  as well as public authorities, reflecting the lifelong and life-wide use of ePortfolios today as well as the growing importance of digital identity, as learners, workers and citizens.

Conference history

It was in 2003 in Poitiers, France, that EIfEL organised the first International ePortfolio Conference, attracting delegates from 20 different countries. It was also during that event that EIfEL first exposed its vision that "by 2010, every citizen will have an ePortfolio !" Since then, EIfEL has organised and co-organised a series of ePortfolio events and conferences, in Europe and worldwide, in North America and Asia Pacific.

Last year over 300 delegates, came from 30 countries, the largest groups being from the UK and The Netherlands. Many delegates were from an education and training background, there was also a large representation from public authorities. associations, foundations, eLearning suppliers, large organisations and SMEs.

The conference was also extended to include the digital identity (Liberty Alliance project) and human resource standardisation (HR-XML) communities (the HCSIT Summit), and the conclusions were that the issues of ePortfolio and digital identity are intrinsically connected and should be discussed in the same forum. This is why, from now on, the International ePortfolio conference will become the "International ePortfolio and Digital Identity Conference."

Why Maastricht?

After France then United Kingdom, EIfEL has chosen The Netherlands as next hosting country for the 6th ePortfolio International conference. Our choice recognises the leadership The Netherlands plays in Europe and the strong commitment of the Dutch ePortfolio community to make this event a European and international success, a key milestone on the path towards the objective to provide every citizen, community and organisation with the best possible technology to develop individual and social capital, support economic growth and inclusion, encourage quality and innovation.
